Robinson College

Robinson College, in association with the Science and Plants for Schools (SAPS) programme at Homerton College and the University Botanic Garden, invites applications from teachers in secondary schools and colleges for a Schoolteacher Fellowship in Plant Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to research and develop one or more safe, low-cost protocols for extracting chloroplast DNA, visualizing it on an existing low cost minigel system, and devising associated starting points for post-16 (e.g. A-level) investigations. The Fellowship is available immediately for one term at a mutually convenient time for the College, the successful candidate, and the laboratory in the Botanic Garden where the teacher will work. Single accommodation in College and a meal allowance will be provided. The full cost of the successful candidate's salary for the term will be met by SAPS which will also provide a grant for consumables and equipment. The successful candidate will, before taking up the Fellowship, be expected to undertake preparatory reading and to visit Cambridge to consult with those who will guide the work.

Applicants should each send a curriculum vitae and covering letter in which they justify their application to the Senior Tutor, Robinson College, Cambridge, CB3 9AN (tel. 01223 339123, e-mail mb110@hermes.cam.ac.uk), from whom further details are available. The closing date for application is 17 February 1999.
