Music Tripos

The regulations for the Music Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 358) have been amended as set out below. The purpose of the amendment is to give the Faculty Board power to prescribe an alternative mode of assessment, including the submission of an essay, for one or more of the additional papers set in Part II of the Tripos. The regulations have been amended, with immediate effect, as follows:

Regulation 14.

By amending the last paragraph so as to read:

Each paper shall be of three hours' duration, with the following exceptions:

(a) Paper 1 shall be of four hours' duration.

(b) The examination for Paper 5 shall consist of a recital given by the candidate either on an historical instrument or on a modern instrument or in singing, together with the submission of an essay, of not more than 3,000 words (excluding bibliography and appendices) on a related subject, which shall be submitted in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 18.

(c) In announcing additional papers, the Faculty Board shall have power, subject to the approval of the General Board, to specify an alternative mode of examination for one or more of those papers, which shall include, and may consist wholly of, the submission of an essay.
