Associate Dean in the Faculty of Clinical Medicine

Associate Dean in the Faculty of Clinical Medicine to take up appointment on the retirement of Dr John Stark in May 1999, to undertake responsibilities in relation to postgraduate hospital medical education. The person appointed will be expected (a) to play a key role in working with specialty training committees in the planning and management of specialist training programmes, and (b) to contribute to the development of deanery-wide training programmes for career grade medical staff to increase their effectiveness as teachers and as supervisors of education. The appointment will be for at least six sessions a week and applications are invited from consultants able to combine the duties of Associate Dean with active clinical practice. Given mutually agreeable objectives, the post could be undertaken by two holders. Experience and demonstrated ability in postgraduate medical education would be an advantage. The appointment will be for a period of up to five years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable stipend will be related, pro rata, to the salary scale for NHS consultants, currently £45,740 to £59,040 a year. A stipend above the minimum may be recommended.

Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Surgery

Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Surgery to take up appointment as soon as possible after 30 June 1999. Applicants should have had suitable experience and training in Neurological Surgery and be of the standing required for an honorary contract of service with the Oxford and Anglia Regional Office as a Specialist Registrar. The successful candidate will be required to carry out research as well as taking part in teaching and clinical duties. The appointment will be for four years with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Clinical Lecturer is £22,510 a year, rising by ten annual increments to £38,920. The successful candidate will be eligible to receive non-pensionable payments for extra clinical work.

Computer Officer, Grade II, in the University Computing Service

Computer Officer, Grade II, in the University Computing Service to take up appointment as soon as possible. Applications are invited for the post of Senior Unix System Administrator in the Unix Support group. The work is challenging, sometimes exciting, and requires familiarity and experience in Unix system administration, especially Solaris 2. An understanding of Unix security issues would be an advantage as would some familiarity with electronic mail systems running on Unix. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade II, is £22,726 a year, rising by four annual increments to £26,523. The starting point will depend on experience and age.
