Employment by the University: Notice

23 November 1998

The Council give notice that the rules governing the terms and conditions of employment of University assistants (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 156) have been amended as follows:

Sick pay

Under the current rules, entitlement to sick pay is increased according to length of service. The rules have been amended so as to provide that, in cases where an assistant's entitlement to sick pay is due to be increased while the assistant is absent through sickness, the increase will not take effect until the assistant has returned to work and has subsequently worked for a continuous period of one month.

Maternity pay

The University's provisions for pay during maternity leave are more generous than those required under the Statutory Maternity Pay Scheme. The rules have been amended so as to provide that, if an assistant does not return to work after the expiry of her maternity leave, or if she returns to work but subsequently leaves within three months, the University will have the right to reclaim the amount by which her maternity pay exceeds the statutory entitlement.

Further details may be obtained from the Assistant Staff Office, 25 Trumpington Street.
