Economics Tripos, Part I, and Preliminary Examination for Part II, 1999: Notice

The supplementary regulations for the Economics Tripos, Part I (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 263), and for the Preliminary Examination for Part II (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 221) have been amended, with immediate effect, as set out below. The Faculty Board of Economics and Politics are satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examinations in 1999 is adversely affected by this change.

Part I

Paper 3. Statistics and quantitative methods

By deleting in the second paragraph the words 'In addition to one question of an applied economic or sociological character,'.

Preliminary Examination for Part II

Paper 6. Mathematics for economists and statisticians

By deleting the second paragraph.

The Faculty Board of Economics and Politics give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 1999, the form of the examinations for Part I and for the Preliminary Examination for Part II of the Economics Tripos will be changed, as follows:

Part I

Paper 3. Statistics and quantitative methods

The written paper will consist of two sections. Candidates will be required to answer six questions from Section A and two questions from Section B. There will be a choice of questions in each section. The two sections will be weighted equally. The written paper will carry 60 per cent of the total marks, and the project will carry 40 per cent of the marks.

Preliminary Examination for Part II

Paper 5. Theory and practice of econometrics I

The written paper will consist of two sections. Candidates will be required to answer six questions from Section A, and two questions from Section B. There will be a choice of questions in each section. The two sections will be weighted equally.

Paper 6. Mathematics for economists and statisticians

This paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain nine short questions, all of which should be attempted. Section B will contain six longer questions, three of which should be attempted. Each section will carry fifty per cent of the marks.
