Chemical Engineering Tripos, Part I and Part IIA (New Regulations), 1999: Notice

Part I

The Chemical Engineering Syndicate give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 1999, the form of the examination for Part I of the Chemical Engineering Tripos (New Regulations) will be changed, as follows:

Each paper will contain eight questions.

Papers 1 and 2

In each of these papers Section A will contain six questions.

Paper 3

This paper will be divided into three sections, and will contain questions on process calculations.

Paper 4

In Section A there will be three questions. This paper will include questions on equilibrium staged processes.

Paper 5

Paper 5(1) will include one question on Introductory Dynamics.

Paper 5(2) will include four questions on Introductory Chemistry.

No questions will be set on flowsheets.

Part IIa

The Chemical Engineering Syndicate give notice that the form of the examination for Part IIA of the Chemical Engineering Tripos (New Regulations), which will be held for the first time in 1999, will be as follows:

Each paper will contain seven questions, and will be divided into three sections. In each paper candidates will be required to attempt five questions, including at least one from each section.

Paper 1

Section A will contain one question on biotechnology. Section B will contain one question on residence time distributions and thermal effects in reactors, and three questions on heterogeneous reactors and bio-reactors. Section C will contain two questions on thermodynamics and equilibria.

Paper 2

Section A will contain one question on materials and corrosion. Section B will contain two questions on fluid mechanics and two questions on two-phase flow. Section C will contain two questions on heat transfer.

Paper 3

Section A will contain two questions on calculus. Section B will contain two questions on multi-component staged processes and two questions on advanced continuous contacting processes. Section C will contain one question on energy integration.

Paper 4

Section A will contain three questions on process dynamics and control. Section B will contain two questions on process synthesis. Section C will contain two questions on safety, health, and the environment.
