University offices: Vacancies

The University follows an equal opportunities policy and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Engineering

University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering to take up appointment as soon as possible. The person appointed will be expected to take part in the general teaching of the four-year course leading to the B.A. and M.Eng. Degrees as well as play a major role in a thriving research group with an international reputation. Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants with a record of achievement in fundamental geotechnical research linked to technological developments in industry. Experience of working in industry is desirable. The person appointed will be expected to develop undergraduate and graduate projects with an industrial linkage, and to be willing to teach courses within the broad band of geotechnical engineering. Appointment will be made at either University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer level, depending on the age and experience of the person appointed, and will be for three years or five years, with the possibility, for a University Lecturer, of reappointment to the retiring age or, for a University Assistant Lecturer, of reappointment after three years for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure.

The pensionable scales of stipends are:

University Lecturer: £20,107 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £31,010.
University Assistant Lecturer: £16,655 a year, rising by six annual increments to £21,815.

Assistant Registrary in the General Board Division of the University Offices

Assistant Registrary in the University Offices to take up appointment as soon as possible. The duties will include assisting in the work of the General Board's Needs Committee which is responsible for the deployment of the resources needed to support the academic programme of the University. The person appointed will support the process of resource allocation to Faculties and Departments, and will be expected to play a substantial role in the development and implementation of policy in this area. Applicants should be educated to degree level and have substantial, relevant experience within Higher Education or a related field. The appointment will be made for an initial period of three years, unless that requirement is waived by the Council, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Registrary is £20,107 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £31,010.
