Copyright licensing: Notice

The administration of the University's Educational Recording Agency (ERA) Licence, which was formerly handled by the Audio-Visual Aids Unit, has been taken over by the Copyright Licensing Co-ordinator.

There are now three general copyright licensing schemes in operation within the University:

1. The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) licence, which permits the use of multiple photocopies of printed material for teaching purposes. Course packs consisting of compilations of four or more photocopied extracts from one or more sources and totalling over twenty-five pages of copyright material are not covered by the basic CLA licence, but should be cleared with the CLA in advance. A fee is payable.
2. The Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA) licence, which permits multiple photocopying from national newspapers published in the UK for educational or internal management purposes. A separate licence is required because newspapers are excluded from the coverage of the CLA licence.
3. The Educational Recording Agency (ERA) licence, which permits the recording of television and radio programmes for educational use within the University.

Any member of the University involved in any of these activities who would like further details of the terms and conditions of these licences should contact the Copyright Licensing Co-ordinator, Scientific Periodicals Library, Bene't Street (tel. (3) 34741, e-mail smd15@cam.ac.uk).
