AWARDS BY OUTSIDE BODIES

The John Carter Brown Library

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS, 1999-2000

The John Carter Brown Library, Providence, Rhode Island, will award approximately twenty Research Fellowships for the year 1 June 1999 to 31 May 2000 to scholars whose work is centred on the colonial history of the Americas, including all aspects of the European, African, and Native American involvement.

Regular John Carter Brown Fellowships are available for short periods of two to four months and carry a stipend of $1,100 a month. The Fellowships are open to Americans and foreign nationals who are engaged in pre- or post-doctoral, or independent research. The Library will also receive applications for Long-Term Fellowships, which may be held for five to ten months and which carry a stipend of $2,800 a month. Various restrictions apply to these Fellowships.
