Faculty of Oriental Studies: Notice

Introductory course in Classical Chinese

Dr M. E. Lewis, University Lecturer in Chinese in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, will offer an introductory course in Classical Chinese for members of the University community. The course will consist of reading and discussing selected passages of Warring States (481-220 BC) philosophers, e.g. Confucius, Sunzi, Mencius. No knowledge of Chinese will be assumed. The introductory meeting will be held on Tuesday, 20 October, at 5 p.m. in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Sidgwick Avenue.

Open classes in Modern Hebrew

The Faculty Board of Oriental Studies give notice that the following classes will be held during Michaelmas Term 1998:

Modern Hebrew for beginners, on Wednesdays from 1.15 p.m. to 2.15 p.m.;

Modern Hebrew, intermediate, on Wednesdays from 3.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m.;

Modern Hebrew, advanced, on Wednesdays from 2.15 to 3.15 p.m.

Classes will begin on 14 October and will be held in Room B1, Faculty of Oriental Studies. They are open to all members of the University who are interested.

Israeli Film Club

Starting on 19 October, films will be shown in Hebrew with English subtitles every Monday at 1 p.m. in Room L1, Faculty of Oriental Studies. The films shown on 23 November will be followed by a discussion on Young Orthodox film-makers in Israel with Yehuda Koren, journalist.
