Work submitted in University examinations: Notice

The Board of Examinations and the General Board have had under consideration possible measures to guard against plagiarism in University examinations, in connection with essays, dissertations, and project work. (In general terms, plagiarism can be defined as presenting the ideas or the work of others without acknowledgement and passing them off as your own.) A warning has been included in the Proctorial Notice reminding candidates that those who submit essays, dissertations, or project work for examination must give full and proper acknowledgement to the work of others, and that the University will treat cases of plagiarism with the utmost severity. The General Board have asked Faculty Boards and other authorities to review the regulations for the examinations for which they are responsible, with a view to ensuring that in all Tripos and Diploma examinations candidates who submit work done outside the examination room are required to sign a declaration that the work presented is their own.

In response to proposals put forward by the Faculty Boards and other bodies concerned, the General Board have now approved amendments of the regulations for certain examinations as set out below. These amendments cover all those regulations which do not already include the necessary provisions.
