Pembroke College

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The College hopes to elect not later than 1 January 1999 to the following Fellowships with tenure from 1 October 1999:

Drapers' Company Research Fellowship in the Physical or Biological Sciences or Mathematics
Maudslay Research Fellowship in Engineering

Candidates may be either men or women and should be graduates of, or graduate students at, a university in the British Isles. There is a preference for candidates under twenty-eight years of age but older applicants are not excluded. The tenure of the Fellowship will be for three years. The holder will be permitted to do a limited amount of teaching for the College, but would require the permission of the Governing Body to undertake other paid work. The stipend will be fixed in consultation with the successful candidate taking account of all relevant factors, including family circumstances, and also any revision of stipends taking place between now and 1 October 1999. Typically, however, an unmarried Research Fellow having free rooms in College and free dinners would receive currently a stipend of £14,299 (under review) and, if still a registered Graduate Student, substantial assistance towards payment of College and University fees. Applications (two copies) should reach The Tutor's Office, Pembroke College, Cambridge, CB2 1RF, by 4 September 1998 and should include the following information:

(a) the usual particulars, and a short account of the applicant's academic record and career so far, including a note of any other appointments for which applications are being made;
(b) an explanation of the nature of the applicant's research in about 1,000 words of non-technical language, together with a statement of published and unpublished work; the work itself should be available to the Electors by mid-October 1998 but should not be sent until requested;
(c) the names of two persons well acquainted with the applicant personally and academically who have agreed to write in support of the application.

Applications should only be made on forms obtainable from The Tutor's Secretary, Pembroke College, Cambridge, CB2 1RF.

Pembroke College is an equal opportunities employer.
