PROFESSORSHIP OF THE PHYSICAL EXAMINATION OF MATERIALS

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Professorship of the Physical Examination of Materials with effect from 1 October 1998, which has been created out of the Readership in the subject recently left vacant by the retirement of Professor M. J. Whelan, F.R.S.

The Professor will be expected to conduct high-level research into the development of electron microscope and related instrumental techniques, and their application to the microstructural characterization of materials, and also to take a leading role in research, and in teaching and administration within the Department of Materials.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Linacre College is attached to the Professorship.
