Manufacturing Engineering Tripos

The regulations for the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 321) have been amended, as set out below. In addition to the change in the list of papers set, it is also proposed (see Grace 3, p. 625) that the written examination for Part I should be taken early in the Easter Term, so as to leave the greater part of that term free for candidates to concentrate on course work. The regulations have been amended, with effect from 1 October 1998, as follows:

Regulation 11.

 By replacing Papers P4 and M1 by the following papers:

Paper G5. Engineering materials and processing (Paper G5 of Part IIA of the Engineering Tripos and Part I of the Electrical and Information Sciences Tripos).

Paper P5. Human resources.

The supplementary regulations for Part I of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 322) have also been amended, with effect from the same date, as follows:

By replacing the regulations by the following regulations:

PART I

Paper P1. Design and manufacture

The paper shall consist mainly of questions on design for function and manufacture, the design process, the design of manufacturing elements and systems, and industrial engineering.

Paper P2. Organization and control of manufacturing systems

The paper shall consist mainly of questions on quality control, inventory control, the control of manufacturing operations, and information systems for manufacturing.

Paper P3. Management economics and accounting

The paper shall consist mainly of questions on the economic and financial aspects of industrial management.

Paper G5. Engineering materials and processing (Paper G5 of Part IIA of the Engineering Tripos and Part I of the Electrical and Information Sciences Tripos)

The paper shall consist mainly of questions on the principles and analysis of materials processing and on the integrated nature of design, materials, and processing in the manufacture and performance of engineering components.

Paper P5. Human resources

The paper shall consist mainly of questions on organizational theory and behaviour, and international human resource management and employment.

PART II

Paper 1 shall consist mainly of questions on technological aspects of manufacturing.

Paper 2 shall consist mainly of questions on managerial aspects of manufacturing.
