Assistant Director of Studies in International Relations in the Centre of International Studies

Assistant Director of Studies in International Relations in the Centre of International Relations to teach International Law, to take up appointment on 1 October 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will mainly teach and supervise dissertations for the M.Phil. Degree in International Relations in the area of International Law. The appointment will be for up to five years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time or, when appropriate, to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Director of Studies is £19,371 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £29,875.

University Assistant Anaesthetist in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine

University Assistant Anaesthetist to take up appointment on 1 October 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. This office is designed to combine an opportunity for specialist training (Residency) in anaesthesia to the standard of the RCVS and ECVA Diploma with clinical and teaching experience. The person appointed will be required to contribute to the clinical anaesthesia service in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine and its associated clinics throughout the year and to collaborate in a research project, for which a period of time out of clinic will be allowed. He or she will be expected to undertake such teaching as may be directed by the Head of the Department; this normally takes the form of small group supervision in the clinics, but may include a limited number of formal lectures. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in clinical anaesthesia and ideally will hold an appropriate Certificate of the RCVS, but if not will be expected to sit for this examination and progress to Diploma status during the initial period of appointment.

Applicants for this office must have a veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The appointment will be for three years. The title and maximum tenure for this office are under consideration and details are included in the further particulars.

Secretary of the Department of Genetics

Secretary of the Department of Genetics to take up appointment from 1 September 1998. He or she will be responsible to the Head of Department for many aspects of administration in the areas of financial management, personnel matters, arrangements for teaching and research, buildings and laboratory organization, safety, and security. Applicants should normally be educated to degree level and must have relevant administrative experience and be prepared to accept substantial responsibility over a wide range of duties. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for the Secretary of the Department of Genetics is £18,494 a year, rising by five annual increments to £22,785.
