Graces submitted to the Regent House on 4 March 1998

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than Grace 4 and any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113) will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 13 March 1998.

1. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the regulations for Assistant Directors of Development Studies be amended as follows:1

Regulation 3.

 By adding the following proviso at the end of the regulation:

; provided that the General Board shall have power, on the recommendation of the Appointments Committee, to authorize the reappointment to the retiring age of an Assistant Director of Development Studies who has held that office continuously for not less than five years.

2. That a Glanville Williams Prize be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:2

GLANVILLE WILLIAMS PRIZE
 1. The sum received from Mrs Lorna Williams and Dr Rendel Williams in memory of Glanville Llewelyn Williams, LL.D., (Hon.) Litt.D., Honorary Fellow of Jesus College and Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of English Law, shall form a fund called the Glanville Williams Fund, the income of which shall be used to provide a Glanville Williams Prize for Criminal Law.

 2. The Prize shall be awarded by the Examiners for Part IA of the Law Tripos for distinction in Criminal Law shown by performance in Paper 3 in that examination.

 3. The value of the Prize shall be such sum as shall be determined by the Faculty Board of Law within a range approved from time to time by the Council.

 4. Any unexpended income in a financial year shall be added to the capital of the Fund.

3. That the recommendations contained in paragraph 4 of the Report, dated 2 February 1998, of the Council on amendments of certain Statutes (Reporter, p. 363) be approved.3

4. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon HELMUT KOHL, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.4
