Examinations for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course) in History of Medicine and in History and Philosophy of Science

On the recommendation of the Board of History and Philosophy of Science and the Faculty Board of History, the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies have approved the following changes in examinations for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course); these changes will take effect from 1 October 1998. From that date the present examination in History of Medicine will be discontinued, and the regulations for the examination in History and Philosophy of Science will be revised so as to include subjects in the field of History of Medicine. The regulations have been amended, with effect from 1 October 1998, as follows:

 I. The regulations for the examination in History of Medicine (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 471) are rescinded.

 II. The regulations for the examination in History and Philosophy of Science (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 470) are amended as follows:

Regulation 1(b).

 By adding the following to the list of areas for essay subjects:


Medicine up to and including the seventeenth century
Medicine since the eighteenth century
Science and technology studies
