Mellon Research Fellowship in American History: Notice

Applications are invited for a Mellon Research Fellowship in American History, tenable for a minimum of one year from 1 October 1998 or as soon as possible thereafter with the possibility of renewal annually to a maximum of four years. The Research Fellow's duties shall be to engage in original research in American History, which for this purpose shall be defined as the history of the United States of America from its colonial beginnings. The Fellow will be expected to write a brief annual report on the research undertaken. The stipend will be within the range £15,159 to £16,927 a year, and an appointment would normally be made at postdoctoral level. It is expected that candidates will either have completed a Ph.D. dissertation or be able to submit substantial written work, if requested.

Further particulars may be obtained from the Secretary of the Mellon Fellowship Fund, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF, to whom applications (seven copies) should be sent so as to reach her not later than 13 March 1998. Applications should include a statement of proposed research and a curriculum vitae, together with the names of three referees, who have knowledge of the candidate's work. Candidates should ask their referees to send their reports direct to the Secretary to the Managers of the Mellon Fellowship Fund, by 13 March 1998. The Appointments Committee will meet in May 1998.
