Applications are invited for the following University offices:

Assistant Registrary (Deputy Safety Adviser) in the General Board Division of the University Offices

Assistant Registrary (Deputy Safety Adviser) to take up appointment from 1 August or as soon as possible thereafter. The person appointed will be expected to have experience in the implementation of managerial systems in the field of occupational health and safety, and will deputize for the Safety Adviser in the performance of his or her duties. The Office of the Safety Adviser provides a wide range of safety, security, and environmental advice, and practical help to all University Departments. Preference, however, will be given to persons with a thorough grounding in more than one area of occupational safety and the environment: chemical, biological, ionizing and non-ionizing radiations, mechanical, etc. The appointment will be made for an initial period of three years, unless that requirement is waived by the Council, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Registrary is £19,371 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £29,875.

University Physical Education Officer

University Physical Education Officer in the Department of Physical Education to take up appointment on 1 October 1998 or by agreement from an earlier date. Applicants should be qualified in Sports Science and Physical Education, and should be able to demonstrate successful experience in such fields as teaching, high level performance and coaching, management, health, and performance related fitness. The person appointed will assist the University Director of Physical Education with the development and management of women's and men's sport in the University. The appointment is for three years in the first instance with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scale of stipends is £17,606 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,785.

Assistant Under-Librarian in the University Library

Assistant Under-Librarian in the Cataloguing Department of the University Library. Candidates should have a good honours degree and a postgraduate qualification in library and information studies, together with experience in an academic library. Experience of automated library systems would be an advantage. The appointment is for three years in the first instance with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scale of stipends is £17,606 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,785.
