AWARDS BY OUTSIDE BODIES

Gladstone Memorial Trust

TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIPS

The Gladstone Memorial Trustees propose to offer six or more Travelling Scholarships for the year 1998. These Scholarships are intended to give men and women in their first and second undergraduate years at Oxford or Cambridge Universities an opportunity to travel abroad and extend their knowledge of foreign countries. They are not intended to support scientific expeditions or projects connected with academic courses or research. In making their selection the Trustees will pay regard to the candidates' interests outside their studies, as well as to their academic records. The Scholarships will be of up to £400 each paid in Sterling.

Applications from Cambridge candidates should be sent to Dr Michael Proctor, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ. They should be accompanied by a statement incorporating (a) the use to which it is proposed to put the Scholarship, including an itinerary; (b) the applicant's academic and other qualifications; (c) the applicant's financial resources; and (d) brief details of foreign travel experience. A letter of recommendation from a Tutor and two unstamped self-addressed envelopes should also be included (the letter may be sent direct to Dr Proctor).

The closing date for applications is 12 March 1998. Candidates placed on the short list will be invited to attend for interview in London on Wednesday, 13 May 1998. Their expenses will be refunded. No further details are available and no special application forms are required.
