University offices: Vacancies

Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturer in the Faculty of Law

University Lecturer in International Law in the Faculty of Law to take up appointment on 1 October 1998. Candidates may have research interests in any field of international law although preference may be given to those with expertise in international trade law. The person appointed will be expected to teach across the field of international law and, as the position is also associated with the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law, will have their principal place of work at the Centre, and will be expected to assist the Director in the administration and work of the Centre. The appointment will be for three years with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

 The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £19,371 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £29,875. There is no grade of Senior Lecturer.

Junior Research Officers or Research Officers in the Department of Applied Economics

Junior Research Officers or Research Officers in the Department of Applied Economics to take up appointment on 1 April 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter, to work in the Microsimulation Unit on projects related to the construction and use of policy simulation models (two posts). Applicants must have a good first degree in a social science or quantitative subject and an interest in social and micro-economic policy.

Post 1 - to work for twenty-seven months on the EUROMOD project, funded by the EC TSER programme to construct an EU-wide tax-benefit model using national micro-data and national expertise in tax and social security systems. The person appointed will work on assembling the model and will have skills in computer programming and database management as well as the ability to communicate and liaise effectively with a large team.

Post 2 - to work for eighteen months on an ESRC-funded project 'Data Enhancements to Improve the Scope and Reliability of Microsimulation Models'. This will experiment with techniques for merging information from the Family Expenditure Survey and the Family Resources Survey. The person appointed will be familiar with the use of survey micro-data and relevant statistical and econometric techniques.

 The pensionable scales of stipends are:

Research Officer: £16,927 a year, rising by five annual increments to £21,016.
Junior Research Officer: £15,159 a year, rising by two annual increments to £16,927.
