Department of History and Philosophy of Science

TEMPORARY LECTURER

Due to Dr Simon Schaffer's appointment to a two-year British Academy Research Readership, the Department intends to appoint a Temporary Lecturer in the field of the History of Science, who will take up the position starting 1 October 1998. The Department has particular teaching needs in history of science between 1600 and 1850; the successful applicant will also be expected to contribute fully to other areas of teaching in the sociology and history of science, both for the degree course in History and Philosophy of Science and the M.Phil. in History and Philosophy of Science, and to take on a normal administrative load. The appointment will be for two years. The pensionable scale of stipend will be in accordance with the national scale A of University Lecturers, with a ceiling of Point 6.

Applicants are themselves requested to ask for three referees to send references to the Secretary by the closing date, 23 February 1998. Candidates who have been shortlisted will be informed in early March and invited to the Department on 12 March to give a public presentation and for interview.
