This paper will be examined by (a) a written paper and (b) the submission of records of such course-work undertaken during the courses leading to the examination as shall be determined from time to time by the Faculty Board. Parts (a) and (b) will carry equal weight.
The Faculty Board further give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 1998, the form of the examinations for the Oriental Studies Tripos, Parts I and II, and for the Preliminary Examination for Part I will be changed as follows:
This paper will consist of a number of essay questions, of which candidates will be required to answer three.
This paper will consist of six questions each containing a passage from the specified texts. Candidates will be required to translate all the passages into English.
This paper will consist of eight questions. Question 1 will contain unseen passages in Aramaic for translation into English. Questions 2-7 will be questions on various points of grammar. Question 8 will contain four sentences or a short prose passage for translation into vocalized Syriac.
