Chemical Engineering Tripos, Part I (New Regulations), 1998: Notice

The Chemical Engineering Syndicate give notice that the form of the examination for Part I of the Chemical Engineering Tripos (New Regulations), which will be held for the first time in 1998, will be as follows:

Paper 1

 The paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain seven questions on Fluids 1. Section B will contain two questions on Reactors. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, at least one of which must be from Section B.

Paper 2

 The paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain seven questions on Transport Processes. Section B will contain two questions on Continuous Contacting Processes. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, at least one of which must be from Section B.

Paper 3

 The paper will be divided into four sections. Section A will contain three questions on Equilibrium Staged Processes. Section B will contain two questions on Economics, Safety, Health, and Environment. Section C will contain two questions on Equilibria. Section D will contain two questions on Flowsheets. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, including at least one from each section.

Paper 4

 The paper will be divided into three sections. Section A will contain four questions on Process Calculations. Section B will contain three questions on CAPE. Section C will contain two questions on Mathematical Techniques. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, including at least one from each section.

Paper 5(1)

 The paper will be divided into three sections. Section A will contain two questions on Beams, two questions on Introductory Dynamics, and one question on the Mechanical Properties of Materials. Section B will contain two questions on Stress Analysis and Pressure Vessels. Section C will contain two questions on Further Dynamics. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, including at least one from each section.

Paper 5(2)

 The paper will be divided into three sections. Section A will contain five questions on Introductory Chemistry. Section B will contain two questions on Stress Analysis and Pressure Vessels. Section C will contain two questions on Further Dynamics. Candidates will be required to attempt not more than five questions, including at least one from each section.

 Candidates will be provided with steam tables and the Department of Chemical Engineering Databook for all papers. Structural tables will be available for Papers 5(1) and 5(2).
