University offices: Vacancy

The University follows an equal opportunities policy and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Applications are invited for the following University office:

Computer Officer in the Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry Department hopes very soon to be in a position to appoint a Computer Officer, Grade III or IV, to take up the appointment on 1 December 1997 or as soon as possible thereafter. The person appointed will work as a member of a small team on all aspects of the Department's computing needs, including installation and management of the Ethernet, system management of UNIX workstations and clusters, installation and maintenance of office hardware and software, and advising users. We are looking for someone with professional qualifications and relevant experience. Familiarity with UNIX administration is essential. The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scales of stipends for Computer Officers are:

Grade III: £17,606 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,785.
Grade IV: £15,159 a year, rising by three annual increments to £17,606.

Further information about the duties and conditions of appointment is available from http://www.ch.cam.ac.uk/CUCL/Appl/.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae and the names of two or three referees, and should be addressed to Dr H. R. N. Jones, Academic Secretary, Chemistry Department, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, CB2 1EW. It would be helpful if candidates would arrange for their referees to write at once to Dr Jones.
