University Library: Notice

POWER SUPPLY IN THE 1972 EXTENSION

There will be no electrical power in the 1972 extension on Saturday, 22 November, as the contractors will be installing new electrical switch gear and connecting the power supply to the new basement bookstacks. The work is expected to take 48 hours. The area affected includes the West Room, the Periodicals Department, the Photography Department, the Library Offices, the Munby Rare Books Reading Room, the Manuscripts Room, the Microfilm Reading Room, and the Official Publications Room. Toilets, lifts and staircases in the extension will not be available.

The Microfilm Reading Room, the Library Offices, and the Photography Department will not be open. Self-service photocopying will be available in the room off the South Wing 1 corridor but not in the West Room.

It is hoped to open the West Room, the Munby Rare Books Reading Room, the Manuscripts Room, and the Official Publications Room without electricity. Access to the latter two will only be possible from floor 3 of the North and South Wings, respectively. A very restricted fetching service will be available for most material read in these rooms. Disabled access at the staff entrance will only be possible if prior arrangements are made with the Head of the Entrance Hall (tel. 333030).

There is a possibility that the work will be undertaken on the following Saturday, 29 November, if the contractors are not ready in time to undertake it on 22 November.
