Congregation of the Regent House on Thursday, 4 December 1997: Notice

3 November 1997

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that a Congregation of the Regent House will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 4 December 1997, at which FERNANDO HENRIQUE CARDOSO, of Clare College, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, will be admitted by the Chancellor to the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law, honoris causa.

Those attending the Congregation will need to be in their places in the Senate-House not later than 10.45 a.m. Members of the University wear the academical dress of their Cambridge degrees, with hoods. Doctors wear scarlet. Junior members wear their gowns.

Because of the limited time available for the President's visit, there will be no general procession into or out of the Senate-House on this occasion.

ADMISSION TO THE CONGREGATION

Admission to the Senate-House will be strictly by ticket only

All applications for tickets must be made in writing, and must give the names of all those for whom tickets are requested. Application should be made to Mr P. A. H. Tee, at the University Offices, The Old Schools, to arrive not later than 14 November 1997. No other applications can be accepted, and it is not possible for applications to be individually acknowledged.

Members of the University, including those in statu pupillari, may apply for tickets for themselves and if they wish, for one guest in each case, whose name and address must be given. Tickets will be issued strictly in the order in which applications are received, and will be despatched about one week before the Congregation. Applicants will understand that there may be more applications than there are places available. Those who find that they cannot use their tickets are asked to return them so that their places may be offered to others: tickets are not transferable. Further details of the arrangements will be included with the tickets.

No tickets will be issued on the day of the Congregation.
