REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Land Economy Tripos

The regulations for the Land Economy Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 309) have been amended as set out below. The purpose of the amendment is to introduce an additional element, viz. the submission of a project report, into the examination requirements for Papers 6 and 15. The Board of Land Economy are satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examination in 1998 is adversely affected by this change. The regulations have been amended, with immediate effect, as follows:

Regulation 12.

By amending the last paragraph so as to read:

Each paper shall be of three hours' duration, except Papers 3, 6, and 15. The examination for each of Papers 3, 6, and 15 shall consist of a written paper of three hours' duration and the submission of a report on a project undertaken by the candidate; the work to be undertaken for the project, and the arrangements for the submission of the report, shall be prescribed from time to time by the Board of Land Economy.

The supplementary regulations for the Land Economy Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 311) have also been amended, with immediate effect, as follows:

Paper 3.  Accounting and data evaluation

By replacing the second paragraph by the following sentence:

The examination for this paper includes the submission of a report on a project involving Information Technology (see below).

Paper 6.  Finance and investment analysis

Paper 15.  Valuation theory and practice

By adding at the end of each regulation the following sentence:

The examination for this paper includes the submission of a report on a project involving Information Technology (see below).

By adding at the end of the regulations the following paragraph:

Papers 3, 6, and 15: project reports

The project to be undertaken for each of these papers shall be specified by the Board of Land Economy and announced not later than the division of the Lent Term. Candidates will be required to submit in typescript, by a date to be announced by the Board, an account of the project in the form of an extended essay. This account, which must be in English, should not exceed 4,000 words in length (including notes, but excluding appendices and bibliography).1 It should report the statistical sources and techniques used by the candidate as well as presenting the candidate's results and conclusions.

1 One A4 page of tables shall be regarded as the equivalent of 250 words.
