NORMAN WADDLETON STUDENTSHIP

Through the generosity of Mr Norman Waddleton, Emmanuel College, Cambridge, is able to offer a three-year Studentship covering full costs for a Home or EC student and with a generous research allowance associated, to enable a suitably qualified graduate to conduct research on the history of colour-printed illustration of books by methods other than half-tone colour printing. Areas could include individual craftsmen or inventors, artists, colour-printing firms, publishers of such books, and methods of colour-printing used for economic or other reasons (such as availability of craftsmen) and also the educational effects on the population at large. Study would not be limited to books published in the British Isles, but could also cover the Commonwealth, Europe, and the Americas.

Applications to be considered for the award should be made to the Tutor for Advanced Students, Emmanuel College, Cambridge, CB2 3AP, enclosing a curriculum vitae, the names of two referees, and a statement of the proposed research. Applicants may wish to discuss their research proposal before submitting it with Dr John Gage at the Department of the History of Art, 1-5 Scroope Terrace, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, CB2 1PZ (tel. 01223 332980). The closing date for applications is 15 October 1997. The successful candidate will be expected to become a member of Emmanuel College.
