Smith's Prizes, Rayleigh Prizes, and J.T. Knight Prizes: Notice

Statutes and Ordinances, 1997, pp. 679 and 820

One or more of Smith's Prizes, one or more Rayleigh Prizes, and one or more J.T. Knight Prizes for essays on any subject in Mathematics and its applications are offered for competition in 1998. Any Bachelor of Arts of the University may be a candidate for the Smith's and Rayleigh Prizes if at the time when he or she submits their essay, three, but not more than five, complete terms have passed since the term of his or her admission as a Graduate Student of the University of Cambridge or, if not a Graduate Student of the University of Cambridge, since he or she last obtained honours in an Honours Examination or satisfied the Examiners in an examination for a Diploma. Any member of the University who, not being a Bachelor of Arts of the University, has been admitted as a Graduate Student may be a candidate for the J.T. Knight Prizes if at the time when the essay is submitted three, but not more than five, complete terms have passed since the term of his or her admission.

Candidates must send their essays to the Registrary so as to reach him not later than the first day of the full Lent Term, i.e. 13 January 1998 and must state in their essays what portion thereof they claim as original.

The announcement of the award will be made before the end of the Easter Term 1998.

N.B.: Candidates' attention is drawn to the general regulations (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 679), and in particular to Regulations 10 and 11. These regulations appear at the beginning of this 'Awards' edition of the 'Reporter'.
