Isaac Newton Trust
One of the aims of the Isaac Newton Trust is to help to maintain the University’s reputation for excellence in research by assisting projects of high quality, which would normally be capable of attracting significant external funding, but which cannot get all the financial help that is needed.
The Trust has recently reviewed its research grants policy to make sure that it is using its resources in the best possible way. Applications for funding have doubled in the last seven years so in order for the Trust to manage the demand, it has updated its guidelines for applicants.
Key change
For all final applications i.e. not initial draft applications, Heads of Department will need to complete a questionnaire, instead of the current practice of writing a letter of support to accompany their application. The questionnaire can be found here:
Who should apply
The Trust encourages applications for post-doctorial support and strategic bids for significant items of equipment which would be used by more than one lab or Department.
Given the priorities outlined by the Isaac Newton Trust, it is unlikely that applications from senior investigators with a programme grant or Departments with substantial funding would be successful in receiving an award from the Trust.
