Research Professional funding opportunities database
The comprehensive Research Professional funding opportunities
database offers researchers the opportunity to search for research funding in
all disciplines from a wide range of sponsors in the UK and overseas. All funding information in the database is
pre-screened for eligibility for UK researchers.
The database features an easy-to-use interface and powerful searching and
customisation tools that are designed to assist you in your search for research
funding.
The University of Cambridge subscribes to the Research Professional database and
use is free of charge for all University members. From any computer within
the University network, you can start searching directly by going to
http://www.researchprofessional.com and choosing
Self-registration or Campus Access.
Using the Database
Once you have entered the website, you can click on Help button
in the upper right hand corner; this section contains a Quick
Start Guide, which is a good reference point for instructions on how to use the database, set up an
account and customise your searches. A video introduction is also available
showing how to use some basic functions of the website.
Searches can be sorted by sponsor
(from A to Z from all over the world) or
by discipline (as broad or specific as you choose), or you can run a multiple
search combining various criteria at the same time.
To manage your searches more effectively, you need to open a
personal account. This allows you to:
- use the database from any computer – your office, home or
anywhere else if you are travelling
- create customised email alerts that will bring funding
opportunities to your mailbox
- save the results of your searches and re-run them
- store interesting funding opportunities, add notes and share
information with your colleagues
Registration for a personal account is free, and takes about 1
minute to complete. To do this, use a computer within the University network and
go to http://www.researchprofessional.com, click on 'Self-registration' and complete
the form.
In addition to the funding opportunities available, an entire section of the Research Professional website is dedicated to funding guidance, such as providing tips on how to win financial support from research sponsors, information on finding suitable sources, when to draft a letter of enquiry and how to apply successfully.
For details go to the Funding Guidance Section in the Help Site.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact your Assistant Director or Research Support Manager
in the Research Operations Office.
