Finding funding and partners
Finding funding for research
Where do you begin to look for research funding? Although the
bulk of academic research funding comes from one of the major UK Research Councils or
charities, there are many other opportunities from the UK and overseas that you
can apply for. How can you find them and when should you apply? The Research Operations Office can help
you get off to the right start by:
- Offering the Funding Calls Calendar where
you can can find currently available funding opportunities from all major non-industrial sponsors of research at the University.
- Training you to use the Research Professional
funding opportunities database to deliver customised funding opportunities alerts to your desktop from a wide range of UK and overseas research sponsors
- Offering support and advice in complex searches for funding opportunities
- Offering advice and support in the early stages of project
A list of major non-industrial sponsors of research at the
University and links to their funding opportunities web pages is available here.
Finding academic collaborators
If you are an academic interested in interdisciplinary research,
you can find academic collaborators in different departments through major cross-School research initiatives and
successful interdisciplinary projects such as Cambridge Neuroscience,
Cambridge Infectious Disease,
Physics of Medicine,
Cambridge Conservation Initiative and
CamBridgeSens.
We can also help current and potential industrial partners to navigate the university, find the appropriate academic expertise and identify opportunities.
We can also provide advice on suitable funding mechanisms to support academic-industry collaboration
(e.g. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships).
