Travel Insurance

By applying for cover using the appropriate application process below, employees, workers and students of the University of Cambridge can be covered by the University’s Group Business Travel Insurance Policy whilst travelling outside of the UK on University of Cambridge business or on field trips arranged and supervised by University of Cambridge departments. There is no charge for this cover, the cost of the insurance is met by the central University budget.

For the insurance to be valid the trip must be declared in advance of travel and each journey must commence from the UK and return to the UK, the purpose of travel must be for the benefit of the University and the trip should be approved and funded by the University. Multiple destinations without return to the UK can be covered, however, a separate application must be made for every trip from and to the UK.

The online application and cover confirmation is based on the trip being within the scope of policy cover. At the point of making a claim the insurer will validate the cover and a copy of the travel booking and evidence of the business reason for the trip will be required.

Non-standard business travel on behalf of the University may be arranged by contacting the insurance section

Insurance cover for the University is arranged under Commercial Insurance policies which are for business purposes. The University is not authorised or regulated to arrange personal insurance for employees or students. Travel insurance for holiday or personal reasons and other personal insurance should be arranged to meet individual requirements with an appropriate intermediary or insurer.

Please follow the guidance provided by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for the country you are planning to visit.
