Why take part in CareerStart?

  • CareerStart@cam offers flexible to employees who are new, or fairly new, in to the workplace.
  • Careerstart@cam can help you to develop your skills, experience and qualifications to help in your current role and also to progress in your career.
  • You could achieve an NVQ, an Apprenticeship, a City & Guilds qualification, an HNC, or a foundation degree, whatever is relevant to you and your job.
  • Previous participants have worked in all areas across the University including building and installation trades, administration, catering, gardening, animal care and more.
  • You, your supervisor and a CareerStart Coordinator will meet to discuss the most relevant part-time training and, once agreed, the Coordinator can help to arrange this. Ongoing support is offered throughout the training.
  • CareerStart@cam also encourages support and networking between participants and past participants, providing opportunities to meet and share experience at in-house courses and other events. Topics have included communications skills, CV writing, First Aid.

What should I do next?

If you would like to know more please contact the CareerStart Coordinator for an informal discussion about the programme. We can then meet with you and your supervisor to confirm it's appropriate and discuss what training opportunities may be available to you. If you are eligible and decide to go ahead, we will agree a tailored programme of meetings and training with you and your supervisor or line-manager.
