Development Opportunities
There are lots of opportunities to help you do this. Whether it is support at the start of your career, funding for vocational qualifications to enhance your current role or developing specialist skills, the University can offer you many opportunities to develop both personally and professionally.
The University's Personal and Professional Development (PPD) runs many skills development sessions tailored to many different levels of experience and staff groups.
Volunteering in the wider community can help you gain a whole range of skills such as teamwork, management, communication, business skills and many more. Many University staff and students are active volunteers in the wider community supporting a range of projects and initiatives. Visit Volunteering to find out about opportunities in this area. You can also try the The Cambridge and District Volunteer Centre who help match people who want to volunteer to local organisations in Cambridgeshire offering volunteering opportunities.
Job swaps, secondments, work shadowing another colleague and on-the-job training are all useful ways to gain new skills, knowledge and experience. There may be a project starting up in another department that will give you some useful new skills. There may be an opportunity to get some on-the-job training from another colleague on a particular activity you want to learn how to do. Explore what's available by talking to colleagues and keeping up to date with University activities via the University Newsletter and University website. If you find a suitable opportunity to enhance your skills or develop your knowledge and experience talk to your manager about how they can support you.
