Job Search
Once you have identified where you are now and where you want to get to, your next step is to decide how you are going to get there.
You may decide that the right opportunities lie within your current type of professional work or that you are looking for a whole new career. Either way it is worth exploring opportunities for you both in the University and beyond.
For vacancies within the University or the Colleges, regularly check the following sources:
- University of Cambridge Job Opportunities webpage
- Websites of individual colleges
- Cambridge Evening News Jobfinder - University and College vacancies are listed Wednesdays and Fridays in the paper version.
For jobs outside the University you should regularly check the following sources and identify others relevant to you:
Local opportunities:
- Cambridge Evening News Jobfinder
- Other specific employers' websites e.g. Cambs County Council, Addenbrooke's Hospital, and the 'Jobs and Careers' links on Cambridge Local and Community websites
- Pick up a copy of 'Finding work in Cambridgeshire' from the University Careers Service at Stuart House, Mill Lane. Other useful titles include: `Job Seeking Strategies’ and `Sources of vacancy information’. Although these booklets are aimed at Graduates many of the strategies and resources are helpful to anyone looking for new job opportunities.
National Opportunities and Job finding websites:
- Jobs.ac.uk - well-known website for job opportunities typically in Higher Education Institutions. This includes academic, academic-related, research and support roles
- www.monster.co.uk; www.totaljobs.co.uk; www.Fish4jobs.co.uk; www.UKjobsguide.co.uk. are all helpful national job finding websites to try. Many of them allow you to select the geographical area you are looking for work in to help you narrow you search.
