ILM qualifications
The University is an approved assessment centre for the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), a national awarding body specialising in management qualifications. We offer two levels of externally accredited awards:
- Level 3 Award in First Line Management - an introduction to management skills for those who have (or are aspiring to have) responsibilities for others, including managers, team leaders or supervisors. The programme is for 5 days.
- Level 5 Award in Management - for practising or aspiring middle managers in the University and runs over 7 days.
Assessment for each is by the production of various pieces of work, including a work-based assignment, reflective reviews and a presentation. These demonstrate how you have applied your learning from the programme to your work.
The sessions focus on developing management and leadership skills in the context of working within the University. Each session involves a combination of theory and opportunities to practice the new skills learnt. The methods used include tutor input, small group and individual activities, case studies, practice sessions, videos and group discussions. Participants are encouraged to build on previous experience and to continually relate course content back to the issues and situations faced in the workplace.
