INTRODUCTION

This development programme of six separate days draws on the expertise of senior figures in the University. It provides up to date information on the various strands and issues of University strategy and governance. It includes development of some key skills and offers a valuable opportunity to network with administrators both from the UAS and other departments.

It offers a mix of skills development and knowledge transfer, and both these elements along with project and networking activities are interwoven into the six days of the programme.

OUTCOMES

By the end of the programme participants will have:

·    increased knowledge of the funding and governance of both Cambridge and HE as a whole

·    considered the various arms of University activity and identified strategic issues in each case

·    further developed skills in leadership, delivering presentations and managing meetings

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

This programme is intended for administrative and other officers who have been in post for one to five years or who are experienced administrators in another context, but are new to a university post. It is for those whose primary role is administrative, whether they are specialists or generalists.

There are 22 places available on the programme.

FOCUS

Delegates are encouraged to learn from each other, as well as from contributors and session leaders and there is ample opportunity for informal discussion and exchange of information. The programme aims to:

·    broaden their knowledge of current issues and developments within the University

·    enable them to reflect on the relevance and links to their own roles

·    develop a range of skills which are likely to be key to their administrator role

·    engage in a project which allows them to work with others, gather information about new areas and enhance their learning from the programme

PROJECT ACTIVITY

The project activity aims to enhance learning around the various themes that make up the programme. The project will require work to be undertaken between sessions, both with their project team and individually (approximately two hours per month). Project teams of 5-6 will be formed on Module 1 where there will be a session to introduce the project. A project report will be submitted between Modules 5 and 6, and Module 6 will include presentations from each project team to the panel comprising Graham Allen and Indi Seehra.

Participants need to have support from their department/division, both to participate in the six day sessions and also to be able to contribute fully to the project activity.

SPECIAL FEATURES
