Royal wedding bank holiday arrangements
The Government has agreed that the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on Friday 29 April 2011 will be marked by a public holiday.
The University Council gave notice on 7 February 2011 that all staff will be entitled to an additional day of leave to be taken on the same basis as the other public holidays that fall within Term. It is recognised that the 29 April falls within Full Term and a number of University activities will continue as normal.
For full time and part time staff the following rules will apply:
- Established Academic staff
- All established academic staff, irrespective of their working days, will be granted an additional day's leave, to be added to their current year's leave entitlement. Whilst the 29 April is within full term, staff can be released where this is operationally viable for the Institution concerned. If due to operational requirements an Institution is unable to release the member of staff on 29 April, or this is not a normal working day for the individual, an alternative day's leave may be taken on another occasion.
- Unestablished Academic, Unestablished and Established Academic Related and Research staff
- An additional public holiday will be granted if this is a normal working day and is operationally viable for the Institution. If due to operational requirements an Institution is unable to release the member of staff on 29 April, an additional day's leave may be taken on another occasion. If the additional public holiday does not fall on the individual's normal working day, no additional provision will be made.
- Assistant staff
- All assistant staff, irrespective of their working days, will be granted an additional day's leave, to be added to their current year's leave entitlement, subject to operational requirements. If due to operational requirements an Institution is unable to release an Assistant on the 29 April, the usual provisions relating to public holidays will apply as set out under the Assistant Staff Handbook. If this is not a normal working day for the individual, an alternative day's leave may be taken on another occasion.
Please note that staff who join the University after 29 April 2011 will not be entitled to this additional public holiday.
