Cambridge has shaped and extended my adult life in a number of diverse ways: as a scholar, with the wonderful resources of the University Library; as a teacher, in the opportunity to work with gifted people from such a variety of backgrounds; as a parent, at the school gates where I have met so many lasting friends; and as an intellectual worker, through talk with colleagues in different disciplines. Girton gave me a start as a Research Fellow and sustained me for much of my career; Clare Hall allows me now to explore the international dimension of Cambridge life with its exuberant mix of graduates university officers, and visiting fellows from all parts of the world.
